Healthy living and body detox have fascinated me though out out my life. First attempting to detox over 12 years ago, I went to a local vitamin store requesting information on what to take to facilitate the process. Of course the gentleman working there at the time immediately asked if I had a drug test to prepare for, as if the only reason for cleansing out ones body was if someone was going to be checking in on your health. He proceeded to tell me that if I did not need a quick coverup, then my body was build to self cleanse and I should not be concerned with finding alternative methods. In many ways he was right, well he was exactly right only my body was not built to deal with the diet cokes, obsessive bread intakes and general over toxification of processed foods I was consuming daily. However, at the time, I decided to ‘clean’ my diet a little and drink more water, which lasted all of a week as I had no defined schedule or a plan to speak of, most importantly, I didn’t have a goal.
Years later I was feeling sluggish and needed a change, a pick me up, a detox. A few months prior I spent an afternoon with a friend hanging out at his new home, his kitchen was filled with fruits and vegetables. There was more food then I thought would feed a family of five! He explained to me that at the beginning of summer each year he took one month and ate an entirely raw food, vegan diet. He would lose weight, his skin would glow and overall he felt great during the detox. But after a month he returned right away to eating a standard american diet, we even scheduled to go out for burgers the week after he was done ‘cleansing’.
So that is what I decided to do, I went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of fresh foods. And without knowing it, that decision changed my whole life. I just jumped right in and went 100%, because it was just for 30 days – right? So I really didn’t know there were other people living this way everyday, but after 30 days were up I felt great and found no reason I needed to stop. After a few months as more people asked questions that I didn’t have answers to and as more social occasions came my way (as I had just moved to NYC) I started eating more and more cooked foods, but I found that my energy and general health declined.
Personally I have decided that my body functions at my optimal level when fueled with a high raw foods diet. I am throughly enjoying the journey which has many twists and surprises along the way. I feel a incredibly clear and alive eating raw!
At this point – I feel & look at least 10 years younger than my actual age, that’s all the proof I need that this is the most nutritious way to live!
