I see recipes pop up all the time claiming to be healthy. Raw, paleo, zone, low-fat, etc. Whatever your choice is for how you are delivering nutrients to your lovely body, one thing is regularly overlooked. Local & fresh. I understand that it may not always be as easy to get what you are craving that day but the more you make the effort to include these foods that are grown and raised in your area, the more nutrients your precious body can receive in every bite!
Grocery store produce isn’t the same quality. period. Here’s an affordable and easy home taste test that I find showcases the differences really well. Fall is right around the corner and fresh apples are starting to pop up more at the stores and your local farmers markets. Try this – take a big bite out of that expensive organic apple that traveled thousands of miles to you, bouncing around and then sat on the shelf waiting for you. Then try an apple from your local farmers market, ask where it was grown, every farmer I know has some story about why they are growing their chosen variety. The flavor is going to be more robust, packed with nutrients and real food flavor. This food was grown to be picked and eaten, not picked and shipped. It may not last as long on your shelf, and it should not need to, it tastes good enough to eat!
